DVD night (sort-of)

Bakshi's 1978 Lord of the Rings tonight; I'm dubbing my personal copy across to DVD before it deteriorates any more than it already has (there's no audio for significant periods). Yes, I've got a proper (but used) DVD copy on order, but there's no telling what shape it'll be in.
I was attending Stephen F. Austin State University (in Nacogdoches, Texas) when it opened - and drove back to Dallas (actually Highland Park) to see it opening weekend with two friends, Boogie and Calvin (both of whom I've lost touch with). The theater was so packed that we wound up sitting in the far left front seats, so I watched the screen almost over my right shoulder from about ten feet away :)
Amazing what you remember. I still have the soundtrack on LP, too, though it's packed away.

Date: 2007-10-17 10:43 am (UTC)I think I recall seeing this movie when I was about ten or eleven in Saudi Arabia. Someone had it on VHS. I also remember looking for "part two" with my friends, only to be disappointed that it was nowhere to be found. ;-)
