It's statistically based around American data, and is a bit more serious than the usual meme ... the test itself is here, with background on it here. It also lets you know how changes can improve the number.

Mine? 76.86 years, and I could get the biggest gains by:
- exercising more (2.8 yrs),
- sleeping less (.5 yrs),
- lowering stress (as if I could! .4 yrs),
- and drinking more (0.3 yrs).

Lower Quartile : 77.97
Median Lifetime: 87.64

and it really seems drinking more is the best thing to do. Perhaps I'll have two glasses of wine with my meal this evening?

Maybe I should be having a couple of snifters of liquor each evening. I've certainly got enough of the stuff...

Date: 2005-09-06 09:08 am (UTC)Also, I kinda miss a "not in the USA" option for the "I reside in" question. And the "thousands of miles you drive in an automobile a year" question does not allow you to input more than 99 - not that that's a problem for me, but I know people who drive considerably more than that.
As for the "I have XYZ drinks a day" question, I assume that refers to alcoholic drinks, right?
Anyhow... all in all, I get 72.97 (if I tell them I live in Virginia, anyway), and all in all, I could increase that by 7.21. Pretty much average, I'd say, although "Not having any sexual partner has minimized your risk of AIDS" is rather depressing. >_>

Date: 2005-09-06 09:20 am (UTC)Think 99+, if that helps :) Car fetishism aside, most americans drive far less than that.
Yep, that's alcoholic drinks. Non-alcoholic drinks are referred to as water, milk, tea, coffee and the general category soda.
The sex factor is apparently pretty small - become celebrate would net me less than one-tenth of a year.
I didn't even think about changing the state of residence - wonder how much difference that makes?

Oh, and even more unrelated... love your post icon. :)

Date: 2005-09-09 03:38 pm (UTC)This calculator's advice to me includes the following little bits of amusement:
If you do not drive, your life expectancy would be 0.08 years longer
Yeah, but I'd spend a lot more than 0.08 years the rest of my life getting where I'm going. :)
If you do not have any sexual partner, your life expectancy would be 2.20 years longer
But if I uncheck the box that says I'm married, my "score" also gets hurt ... so the obvious answer is purely celibate marriage. Screw that. :)
