dark_fang's home system refused to boot -- even to the BIOS -- a couple of weeks ago, and we broke down and ordered matching MB/CPU/memory/video cards for the first upgrade in about five years for both of us.
The hardware finally arrived today, and I assembled DarkFang's system first; he's upstairs convincing the Windows OS and assorted other Microsoft programs he uses that he is not running pirated copies (he's not), thanks to the new MB/CPU combo.
I'll get my MB populated tonight, but since I'll have to bring this system down (and re-box it for other uses) to change over, I'll wait until tomorrow morning to finish.
What did we get?
- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2GHz CPU
- ASRock M3A770DE motherboard
- 4GB DDR3 1333 memory (two sticks of 2GB)
- OCZ Fatal1ty 550W modular power supply
- MSI N460GTX Cyclone 1GD5 video card
I think we'll notice the difference, since we were each running a single core, 2Ghz CPU with 2GB and GeForce 7600 video cards ...
