President Ronald Reagan had the distinction of being at the helm when the Cold War between the US and Russia came to an end.

Looks like President George W. Bush will have the distinction of being at the helm when the Cold War starts up again.

Heckuva job, George.

Mr. Putin, in an interview at his country residence outside Moscow, said he considers U.S. plans to build an eastern European anti-missile site to shoot down Iranian missiles a provocation aimed at Russia.

Asked what he might do to retaliate, he said he would return Russia to the Cold War status where missiles were aimed at European targets.

That's obviously a bad development, but to an extent, I can actually understand the Russian position - if one looks at it from a Russian perspective, the USA putting up missiles in Poland must feel kinda like Russia putting up missiles in Cuba. Sure, they're supposed to be aimed at Iran only, but I can also see why he doesn't just trust the USA there.

Not that I like Putin in any way, shape or form, of course... not at all.

Eh, well; personally, I wish both Russia and the USA would just stay out of Europe entirely. European nations don't have military bases or station missiles in the USA, either, after all (they don't, do they?).

It's certainly not Putin deciding to do it on a lark - I don't like his policies one bit myself, either.

Another fine example of Bush's "we don't care what anybody else thinks about us" plans.
