The new picture of the week is up.

Just a bit of the family genealogy. My great-grandfather (John) met and married my great-grandmother Lolo in the Antonito area. John's furniture business was open by 1886; in 1889 he married Lolo (Lolo's mother was manager of a hotel in La Jara) and was elected the first mayor the next month. When they were married, John was 35 and Lolo barely 18.
My grandfather was born a little oven ten months after the marriage; a second child died in infancy.
In 1893, John closed his (first) furniture shop and declared bankruptcy. He did open a second furniture shop, selling coffins on the side, and continued in business until 1896 or 1897. He and Lolo moved to Texas in 1898, staying briefly with Lolo's grandparents (who were also hotel managers) before settling in San Antonio.
John and Lolo separated around 1907; Lolo moving to Dallas with her mother and son (my grandfather) while John stayed in San Antonio. Lolo died of tuberculosis in 1912. John died of a heart attack and complications of alcoholism in 1916.
My grandfather lived in Antonito long enough to remember the church, railroad depot and his father's house when passing through in 1959 with my father & mother -- thus the photo, taken by my father. I also have the photos of the church (it still looks pretty much the same) and the house (which I haven't been able to locate on the ground).

There's also a bit of Ysengrin's family history here -- his great-grandfather ran furniture and funerary businesses in town and was the first mayor, and Ysengrin's grandfather was born in Antonito almost 120 years ago.
