Ah, the memories of childhood ...
13 Sep 2007 09:37 amDVD night was one of the last movies I remember seeing in the theaters before my family moved out of Dallas: Krakatoa, East of Java. Nominated for an Oscar for special effects, the film was pretty much how I remembered it -- an absolutely flat, senseless plot draped over a lot of miniature FX and pyro effects. I didn't remember that the same explosion sound track was repeated and overlaid for about five minutes in the middle of the film, though that stands out as irritating now.
Oh, if you're looking for any sort of scientific or historical accuracy, this is certainly not the film for it. That Krakatoa is actually *west* of Java should be the first clue. I've heard that the studio insisted on the name because it suggested "the orient" even thought it was laughably incorrect.
