Creation Exhibit for the Tulsa Zoo
8 Jun 2005 10:48 amA link to the story is on the local Fox affliate's site, but here's the heart of it:
It's apparently going up as a panel in an existing exhibit called "Time". If it was part of a larger grouping of how different religons/cultures view creation - and the disclaimer had something along the lines of *some* Christians believe - it *might* be appropriate.
EDIT: Another article (with a very temporary link) does say that the Christian account of creation is one of several different accounts of creation from various cultures to be shown in the exhibit. It sounds like the news services are trying to fan this into something that it's not. Another article says the exhibit is "a series of photographs by Oregon photographer Rick Ergenbright from his book, The Art of God."
The Tulsa Park and Recreation Board voted 3-to-1 to display the exhibit on creationism despite opposition from zoo employees, religious leaders and others who say it should not be part of a publicly funded scientific institution. Supporters of the exhibit include Mayor Bill LaFortune who say the Tulsa Zoo already has cultural displays such as an elephant statue with Hindu significance. The exhibit will include a disclaimer saying the display is one example of one widely held view of the origins of Earth.
