Trail of Whispering Giants

Sculptor Peter Wolf Toth travelled across the US from 1972 to 1988, creating some seventy sculptures honoring Native Americans, leaving at least one in each state. While some have been removed due to damage, most are still on public display.

This particular sculpture is Toth's sixth, standing in western Pennsylvania. The accompanying plaque reads: "Dedicated to the American Indians (Seneca) ... but they won't be forgotten, but will be remembered in our minds and in our hearts. Love is life. Peter Toth, June 30, 1973"

Location: 41° 10' 52.1" N, 80° 30' 08.4" W

I literally stumbled across this member of the Trail of Whispering Giants at a rest stop on Interstate 80, just south of Sharon, Pennsylvania, while running errands in the area. I know we've talked about the Giants in my journal before, but a (very) quick search didn't find the post.

Edit - found the old post http://ysengrin.livejournal.com/107152.html

My mom's from Mercer County, and I spent a few summers there. Never knew about this. Cool beans!

Look around November 2004 or the month before.

The one in Texas is gone. Pretty much confirmed it was removed due to bugs and rot. The one in Arkansas, to the best of my knowledge has been moved to the Riverfront Park was refurbished and is still there. Next time I go home I'll try to remember to take a picture of it.

Very neat you found the one there!

Sadly

I don't see one here in OK. There seems to be several wood statues here in OK similiar to this. Made out of cut down trees just using the stump.

I see there were three in Florida though.
