Actually, this isn't the end of the current Mayan cycle - we're in the middle of the current piktun, which will end on October 13, 4772 (when the Mayan date flips over to 0.0.0.0.0). There are three more levels of cycles above the piktun, though they weren't often used in Mayan notation, with the uppermost being a little over sixty-three million years in length. Still, this is an excuse to par-tay every 144,000 days!
