Who designs this stuff?

Bought a new pack of pens yesterday - Bic AIs. As with most stores and mid-range pens, there's no way to try before you buy.

The Bic AI is a total piece of crap. There are sharp-edged channels on either side of the pen body that, when gripping the pen normally, fall under your finger and thumb. Did nobody ever try to actually pick up and use this design before sending it to production?

According to information released by the U.S. Census Bureau on 13 Sep 2012, the US median household income is $50,054. Middle class is considered to be $32,500 to $150,000.
