Pick Y'all's Brains ... Nook Color

Thinking about getting a Nook Color.

Thoughts? Stories? Good/Bad? Experiences running Android off an SD card?

I looked into it and decided to spend my money on the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. It gets regular updates and is made to work with Honeycomb out of the box. Ram and CPU speed are also way better. The cost for the 16GB model isn't that much more and you get a much better supported device.

It is, of course, VASTLY inferior to the Kindle. ;)

*gryn* I find the eInk flicker annoying, though price and battery life are both attractive. My old complaints about PDFs are mostly covered by the newer Kindles.

That I can run a reader app under Android that lets me have a two-page format is nice, and the greater flexibility of a tablet would be useful. The higher price of the Nook Color is an ouch, but not as painful as a full-blown tablet.

I love my kindle WAY more than I ever thought I would.

Honestly, it pales in comparison to the ipad or a more dedicated and open android tablet.

If you absolutely positively want an android tablet for under $300, okay, it'll work, mostly. Kinda. You have to know what you're doing. It probably won't support newer stuff. Kindle's app is weird on it, and B&N's is too. PDF reading is.. slower, but not bad. It's a reader first and foremost, and an android tablet 39th or 40th.

Yeah, the Nook Color looks more and more as a hobbyist-toy if you're trying to run some flavor of Android other than the Nook OS.

I don't need *another* hobbyist toy, so I'll just consider it as an e-reader, not a cheap tablet.

Yeah, it looks more as a hobbyist tech toy if you're trying to use it as a tablet. I don't have the spare time for another toy, and would like to just be able to *use* it, so I'll just compare it as another e-reader rather than a cheap tablet.
